Busy busy busy

Writing has had to be put back on to the back burner for a little while, I have a pile of web and photography based work to get through. Add to that that I have a very poorly husband and a cold… joy :(

Just a Quote

What we think or what we know
or what we believe is, in the
end, of little consequence.
The only consequence is what we do

So peaceful…

Around here without the bots spamming up my comments. While some of them were very funny, it was well past time for a clear out. :)

I’m being incredibly lazy just now, but I am looking forward to a fresh start in the New Year.

Absent

I’m going to be mostly absent until a) I get rid of this damn cold and b) The holidays are over.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas, new Year and whatever other holidays they enjoy, I will be back with a vengeance in January :D

Dead!

My poor poor Internet is dead today so having to update from my phone.

And…

I’ve run out of old beginnings to share. Now I’m actually going to have to be creative and find new stuff to blog about every day… EEEK!

I did find another “beginning” but it was for a self-help weight loss book, so not really suitable for my purpose here, though it has inspired me to get one of my other websites up and running again with a health blog. I figure that blogging is writing practise too, so it all adds to the learning process.

I’m still completely stuffed up with a cold and a stomach bug, it’s a lingering lurgy, slow to start and slow to finish, I’ve been ill for about three weeks now :(

I’m supposed to be going to Chester for a visit this weekend, so I’m doing everything I can to make sure I feel healthy enough to go.

Anne McCaffrey

I’ve kind of avoided the topic of Ms McCaffrey’s sad loss on the 21st of November because there really aren’t enough words to express how I feel.

As I child I munched my way happily though the classics and a steady trough of Enid Blyton and Laura Wilder. It wasn’t until I hit my teens that I started going through my parents book shelves and discovered the joys of Sci-fi and Fantasy. Along with Heinlein, Bester and Adams I found Anne McCaffrey and I fell into her world as if I had always been meant to be there.

I am not going to try and claim they were works of literary genius, nor were they particularly deep or thought provoking, they were simply pure escapism in to a rich and fantastical universe.

Her stories got me through many difficult times in my life. When everything around me was falling apart, I’d reach for a McCaffrey book and keep reading until all was once more alright in my world and it was safe to re-emerge.

They got me through my teens, a nervous breakdown, heartbreak and loneliness. They saw me through pregnancy and quitting smoking and helped me survive post-natal depression and the difficult years that followed.

Anne McCaffrey was there for me in a way that my parents never were. She comforted me like a mother should and helped divert me from destructive trains of thought with fun and entertainment in the way my father never could.

They are the most oft re-read books on my shelves and I have no doubt, always will be.

Thank you Anne,

You have helped me in ways that no other could.

You will be missed, not only by me but also your millions of fans across the globe.

RIP

Snuffle gruff

Morning world!

I hesitate to throw in a “good” due to the evil Cold Goblin family that has set up camp in my nose and throat. Little green bastards.

I will have to drag myself out of bed soon as I have work to do, a couple of posters for a friend. I wish I had a decent laptop so I could work in bed today.

For now I’m going to read for a bit and then get myself moving. I’m currently reading The Dragon Factory by Jonathan Maberry, fun!
